The Stories
Behind the Music.
Musicians. Songwriters. Venues. Performances. Conversations. For years, 30A Songwriter Radio documented a music community while the story was still being written.
We Didn’t Set Out to Build an Archive.
30A Songwriter Radio accumulated years of interviews, photographs, podcasts, performances and articles because musicians kept giving us something worth documenting.
Some walked into a living room. Some sat behind a microphone. Some played original songs. Later, many walked through the doors of 30A Songwriter Radio Music & Coffee.
At the time, these were interviews, shows and stories. Years later, together they have become something else: a record of a music community.

One chapter deserves its own room in the archive. During the Coffee Shop years, the people we had been documenting suddenly had a physical place to gather.
Interviews happened there. Musicians performed there. Tuesday-night open mics brought new people through the door. Conversations became podcasts and performances became photographs and video.
Today, those years represent one of the richest visual parts of the 30A Songwriter Radio archive.
Some Memories Don’t Need an Introduction.
The Lips became one of the visual signatures of 30A Songwriter Radio. Like Derek Givans’ original jingle, they became connected to the identity of the project itself.
They appeared during the years when interviews, performances and stories were being created and eventually became part of the Coffee Shop itself.
Preserving the archive means preserving these pieces too — not only the words that were written, but the images and sounds people remember.
Cameras Rolled.
Microphones Were On.
Musicians came through the room, sat down, talked about their music and played their songs. Nobody knew how valuable those recordings, photographs and stories might become years later. We simply knew they were worth capturing.
